“Today, Mexico remains the only continental state in Latin America with which Russia maintains a visa regime. The Russian counter-draft of an intergovernmental agreement on the waiver of visa formalities for mutual trips of citizens is under consideration by the relevant Mexican departments, ”RIA Novosti reports the words of Nikolai Sofinsky.

The diplomat stressed that the approval of the document is a slow process that affects national security issues and takes into account the difficult migration situation in the Latin American region.

It is assumed that the process may move in connection with the introduction from August 1, 2023 of a unified system of electronic visas to Russia for more than 50 countries, including Mexico.
